I'm sorry but I can't stop thinking about a certain angsty idea

Like pretty sure this is implying getting married is a canon event? But in a way, doesn't that kind of, really strip the choice and actual love and magic out of it? Or, could you at least understand the idea of a Spiderperson who may feel that way? Did you genuinely fall in love with someone if it was "supposed" to happen? And the universe could fall apart if you don't so you arent really even given a choice to say no? Isn't that like having a preprogrammed robot instead of a true lover?

Still kinda obsessed with the concept of a Spider Reader where you didn't get scouted by Miguel until after you had already lost your loved ones, but, it's clear that some Spiders are scouted before they have all of their events (Pav), and, I can't stop thinking about, you're in the Spider Society and making friends and having fun and stuff and you're. Still supposed to get married or have a relationship or something and you're just, completely avoiding having anything at all, not even dating anyone, nothing really feels natural to you and you just don't really want anything?

Months and months and months pass and you've turned multiple people down in your home dimension and Spiders at the Society are told not to interact with you in certain ways, which becomes overboard when no one ever seems to want to hug you or even high five you or touch you at all (because "oh don't let them get a crush on you, they can't break canon" or some dumb paranoia) which just eventually develops into isolating you from the Spider Society, and they all think, "ok good they'll spend more time at home and then start the route for this canon event and we can talk to them again" but it just. Doesn't happen. You're starting to show up to the Society less and less but the only thing that changes when you get back home is a loneliness that you fill with a pet and some platonic friends

Peter B is trying to "subtly" nudge you. "Ya know kid, aren't you in your 20s now? Isn't it time you try and, I dunno, get into college or something? You've got so much potential!" as he willingly omits how he met his wife in college and maybe it's in the model that you could meet your spouse there too as a potential option

But I like the idea and already lowkey established concept that canon changes and has tweaks here and there and can be bent in certain ways so, imagine like, idk, imagine Reader already being with the person who is supposed to your soul mate, and, you find out about The Model or whatever, the Arachno Humanoid Poly Mutiverse or whatever, and you just realize kind of on accident that, oh having a relationship at all is kind of just another prison for you to be in, huh? Another choice stripped away from you, another thing that made you feel like a rubber stamp in existence in the weird copy/paste Spider Society. So you just. You don't intentionally bomb the relationship but you become so extremely depressed and refuse to talk about it with your SO that they actually leave you, making the choice independently, changing canon but not breaking it

But here's Miguel, which I guess you could imagine as a protective obsessive romantic figure or even platonic parental, and he's all but grinding his teeth because, as he sees it, you're not only risking completely breaking your canon which you know Would Fucking Kill You, but, why are you constantly shooting down what are supposed to be good changes for your life? No relationships? No college? No aspirations at all? Why are you not living up to your full potential? He's so frustrated because he KNOWS you could "be better than this" and that you're "supposed to" be better than this, but you just seem. Depressed and defeated. He wants you to be better because it's better for your life, your future, your safety (even if depending on preference it absolutely gets under his skin to see you with anyone else romantically or sexually)

And I have no idea how they would externally force you into some kind of relationship but, I've also thought about, alternatively, the tried and true "Reader lost their home dimension but somehow didn't disappear and lives on Earth 928B now" (the movie specifics its 928b ok, pet peeve I know, 928 is comic Miguel, 928b is ATSV movie Miguel) and eventually, somehow, your bracelet comes off one day and you're about to freak out and it's like, wait, you aren't glitching??? Why aren't you glitching? I mean, you're happy to not be in pain and flashing colors, but, this doesn't make sense? And you don't wanna tempt fate but you don't bother to get a new bracelet or, other people are around to witness this weird event and so, Miguel is immediately investigating what happened. I imagine maybe they scan you with the Go Home Machine and it's just like "ha ha yeah you're home already :)" you know like some "Dimensional Match: 928B" and the machine doesn't even activate, it just scans you with the drone, is like "yeah you're good lmao" and goes back to sleep

And now Miguel is like, you know. Understandably concerned because now there are two Spiders for Nueva York, but, also, he's just like, unbeknownst to you absolutely over the moon necause if you're technically a part of his dimension now, maybe you can complete your canon and have some sort of happy ending. But. Miguel never had his wedding either? Or at least not the "true" one, like how Peter moves on from Gwen to Mary Jane? Cue Miguel suddenly spending suspicious amounts of time on his platform in the dark looking at holograms and algorithms and asking Lyla to calculate the probability of you two maybe becoming spouses for each other

AND YOU'RE SO FUCKED IF IT SAYS YOU CAN LMAO. Cause now not only is he all the more obsessed with you (you were BROUGHT to his dimension by a miracle, can't you SEE you're destined for each other) but now it's "don't you understand? Not only are we MEANT for each other, you don't have a choice! You CANT break canon!" And he's fucking putting a finger in your face and lecturing you about how, you know what, it's ok if you're scared and you're not ready. You know why? Because you two were made for each other, and, he must have been made to be this strong so he can protect you and make decisions on your behalf, right? It's all in The Model. It's all in God's Plan. The two of you are going to get married whether you think it's the love you're fantasizing about or not, and Miguel is more than thrilled that he was essentially just handed a certified excuse to keep you all to himself on a silver platter

Imagine if Earth 928B's solution to two Spidermen, like how Miles' "corrected" itself with getting rid of blonde Peter, what if the universe and canon just went, "actually it's all cool though cause technically one of them isn't going to technically in name be a Spider anymore, they're going to be forcibly turned into a cute little pampered house spouse" and ON GOD he's getting children out of you if you're capable of it and that ISN'T optional. He's thinking you can start at AT LEAST three babies and then talk about how many more from there? He's always wanted a large family with lots of cute little girls and boys, you know 👉👈

AITA for sending in a fandom ask no one clocked? I know this probably sounds like bait, but I feel genuinely guilty.

I had read the FAQs before submitting but I also think I perhaps overestimated the reach of the 2018 Peter Rabbit movie. I didn’t think I could come right out and say “yo I’m a rabbit btw” so I omitted perhaps the most obvious tell but I was watching it on repeat at the time and I guess I had just assumed everyone would catch on.

I also didn’t think that saying I was a rabbit would ever get the ask posted bc it goes against the guidelines, but reflecting on it I also think there’s a difference between how you treat a person and how you treat a wild animal you’re not aware has real person feelings that would impact the voting and reaction so idk.

I didn’t feel guilty when I submitted it and I thought it was funny until I saw that people were getting (what I perceived as) really distressed about it in the notes. I guess I didn’t realise how bad it sounded until I had taken the context away. I know this is probably silly and I probably inflated the reactions in my head, but I still feel really guilty about how passionate the reactions were and possibly causing anyone to feel stressed like that irl.

This has been weighing on me awhile. I didn’t find the actual post until the voting had already passed and it was too late to add info so I’ve decided to ask in here if that’s ok. In my defence, it was about a scene that I always genuinely felt was weird, and the results did justify it haha.

Deity Letter Writing

Deity letters are, in my opinion anyways, a wonderful alternative to traditional prayer if praying is something you struggle with for whatever reason! Sometimes praying can be uncomfortable for me-for personal reasons, and also formality kind of squiks me out-but writing is something I’m very confident about! And it tends to come much easier to me than praying. I started writing letters about 3 years ago on a whim because I was just frustrated with praying not always working for me. And it’s worked wonderfully ever since! It’s a great way for me to be able to get whatever thoughts or feelings I’m having off my chest! It’s really no different than say if you were writing to a pen pal, or a friend, or whatever. It follows the same format and generally includes the same content (with some differences of course).

When it comes to formatting I keep it to, like I said, like a traditional letter. I start it with ‘Lord/Lady [insert deity name here]’ sometimes I’ll precede that with ‘dear’ but that’s totally up to you! (Which is another amazing thing about this, you can tailor it to your and your relationship with the deity you’re writing too!).

Then I follow it with a quick ‘introduction’ paragraph, I just say hello, tell Them how I’m doing, tell Them that I hope They’re doing well, little things like that. And again- you can tailor this to you and your deity! You can completely omit this section or add to it. Whatever you want.

I don’t always write to Them when I need something from Them but if you do I usually include it in the second paragraph. If I don’t I usually just tell Them what I’m up to, or that I saw something that made me think of Them, etc.

In the last paragraph I thank Them for well…anything really. Maybe for being in my life, or like with Zeus I may thank Him for any rain we’ve had, etc. to me this is the most important part as it kind of builds this certain…reciprocity (idk if that’s the right word but it’s the best way I can describe it) and also it’s just kind to do! I may also ask if There’s anything in particular they want from me or anything like that. But again- you can omit or include this as you please. It’s not a must.

I don’t always do a like…’sincerely Mars’ part but if you wanted to you totally could! Sometimes I’ll just do a little doodle or maybe a funny joke that I think They’d like, or a book quote that made me think of Them, etc. whatever you want really!

Now I know a major concern is ‘do They receive these?’ And my response is a resounding yes, at least in my experience. If you talk while you write you could totally treat it as a prayer! But I usually don’t and just like…’hear’ the words in my head as I write which is good enough! I usually just call whichever deity it id I’m writing to beforehand in the same way you would before praying or giving an offering! I usually just say ‘Hear [insert deity name] as I write this letter to you’ then go for it! And of course, you can alter this to whatever works best for you. I also may light (or turn on, I use electric candles) their candle and bring it over to wherever I’m writing or listen to Their deity playlist. Just whatever I need to do to ‘get in the zone’.

As far as ‘disposal’ goes, I have a little wooden locked box that I have that they go into! Then when my aunt and uncle do a bonfire I just take it over and toss the letters into the fire. But this part totally depends on you and your situation. You could rip it up, or shred it. Or set it on their altar. If you wanted to you could just write them in a notebook and keep them in there. Or you could do it on your phone! In your notesapp or whoever else.

How would "the battle royale" happen I'm your au? Would it even happen? I mean, the "crush arc" doesn't seem to be a thing in this au, so the episode's set up and aftermath would be radically different from canon. Right now I'm thinking that maybe wander would plant something for Mr. Meteor in another attempt to lure him to him and integrate him into the hivemind, but somehow a bunch of people all over the galaxy show up and it quickly devolves into chaos, especially with Westley showing up and causing a lot of destruction and mayhem.

you bring up a good point! the battle royale is actually one of the episodes i go back to the least, but i did rewatch it recently. i think you're onto something with wander trying to set a trap for mr. meteor and accidentally luring half the galaxy, and i really don't know how else i'd pull it off.

if i'm totally 100% honest, the crush arc is my least favorite part of the second season, and that's the reason i'm mostly omitting it from the au. i don't like that dominator is the disinterested Object of Affection for so much of it without a lot of actual character development...or even just. character moments that aren't about men who are in love with her. idk.

i would rather replace. most of the episodes about trying to woo her (except the show stoppers and my fair hatey of Course) with episodes that are ACTUALLY about HER and not what she represents as Mean Goth* Girl. that's why my favorite dominator episode is the night out, which is functionally the only episode where we get anything from dominator as a person instead of a vague looming threat or a Bitch. she has her moments in the finale too but. they had a whole season with her as the MAIN antagonist to give her something more to work with.

Comic Edition Emirate Xaaron and Autobot Flame: A Marvelous match

Coming at us in a blast from the past, we have two massive nobodies from UK Marvel G1, Generations Comic Edition Emirate Xaaron and (Autobot) Flame!

Starting with the real highlight of this set, Xaaron takes center stage, cast primarily in a light gold with some painted darker gold highlights and a bit of black shading, to make it look as though he came right off the comic page. His joints are cast in an off white, and his thighs are painted silver, which helps bridge the gap between the metallic and matte finishes. His head pops out in that same pale tone, with some small touches of black to highlight his facial features. Xaaron’s overall look is based roughly on G1 Megatron, though he omits the gun mode kibble that would become the classic bucket head to show off that crown crest. It’s paired with a weird iron man mouth that spawned from the confinements of the drawn page, creating a unique head design and a very nice-looking robot, simply. I’m utterly enamored with Xaaron and how he looks. I’m also a fan of the comic shading, a rather divisive aspect of the Comic Edition subline. I think it adds a nice dynamic element to the figures and just looks nice.

Now, while Xaaron was based off Megatron, do not be mistaken, this is no retool of the Decepticon despot. Any modern Megatron would have been both too big and too imposing to sufficiently serve as Xaaron, but Siege Refraktor lets him keep the same form factor in a suitably smaller stature. It’s also boxy and generic enough to make for a smooth transition to other characters. This is evidenced by the only new parts on the main figure being the chest piece and the head, everything else merely getting color swapped. That’s not the whole package however! Xaaron comes equipped with a small slew of additional, purely optional parts to give him a slightly more “traditional” Transformers look, giving you some hint towards what his alt mode might be. He gets a pair of tank treads, intended for his legs, and a cannon alongside the accompanying turret mount to peg wherever you please. They shake up his profile, pulling your eyes down a bit more and making him that touch less blocky.

A fun little tidbit, plus some context for why Xaaron is designed the way he is, he never transformed in the comics. It was briefly teased in his showdown with Flame, on which this set is based, but since it’s been so long since he’d last done it, he was worried the act might kill him. Now that’s all fine and dandy for a character in a comic book! It adds an interesting layer to the conflicts presented, and it’s not like characters from comic books have never gotten toys before. Problem though, this is the Transformers toyline. So, (according to the wonderful Sixo, who revealed this set and this info) the designers went with a simple mold that they could easily add a partsforming element to, letting you have both a comic accurate robot mode and an alternate mode. The extra pieces are even explained as, effectively, combat armor, so he doesn’t kill himself getting ready for battle. And idk I think it’s neat I like when things have explanations.

The actual transformation sure is Siege Refraktor. Too bad that wasn’t the most groundbreaking toy. The hands tuck away, the arms fold back, the waist swivels and the legs turn outwards. Waow. The new tank pieces do a lot for the look, though that’s turning an indiscriminate “space vehicle” into a slightly less indiscriminate space vehicle. I’m not sure if it’s just my copy but I struggle to get the cockpit piece that folds out from the chest to tab securely into the legs. It is also a new piece, which might have an impact, but it’s also only very slightly different. It doesn’t really matter, but still.

Of course, what would a hero be without a villain? That’s where Flame comes in, looking delightfully menacing and twisting what should be a normally nominal Autobot color scheme into something far more sinister. One upping Xaaron by being this sets Megatron retool, specifically the SSGE WFC mold, Flame wears the bulky, brutish shapes of the Decepticon leader in much the same manner, but the new parts help set him apart. That said, his arms stick out a bit, the completely bare plastic and slightly higher amount of mechanical detail compared to the likes of his shins clashing with the rest of the figure.

He poses quite nicely, looking suitable malicious the way only a deranged scientist can, though some of his joints are just. Weird. His elbows don’t bend smoothly, both sets having an unfortunate tendency to jump between positions, though this has lessened a bit with time. His legs are even worse in this regard. The knees have tabs in the front and back of the leg that effectively act as a single big ratchet, giving you a whopping two options of bent and straight. What’s weirder is that if you go past them, the knee does rotate smoothly and tightly, but you’ll only have room for that when you’re transforming him thanks to the big tab in the back. It’s an absolutely bizarre design choice that is no more welcome here than it was on Megatron. Thankfully you can snip them off with zero concern, something I’ve done on my copy. Even if you do keep him stock, he’s still quite expressive, and naturally looks intimidating. My only other major gripe is that his ankle tilt is a bit limited. Like yeah a wrist swivel would be nice but you don’t need it-

The transformation is rather fun! Nothing changes from Megatron, but the way his arms go over his back and under his chest is clever, and it feels great to close his legs over everything like one big clamshell. I have no other notes it’s just a good toy.

This is a great set, and Xaaron is actually my favorite part of it? He’s unbelievably charming. His natural stature gives off a big energy of “I am not built for this” and a constant vibe of “oh god damn it not again”. I love him. Flame’s still plenty fun! I’m just not as enamored with him. The best part of this set though is what it represents. Transformers is a massive franchise, with a lot of characters and some deep, deep cuts that have formed over 40 years. There are plenty of obscure nobodies. Now while Xaaron did feature fairly prominently in the UK Marvel comic, and even showed up in the later stages of the American run, he’s not exactly the face of the franchise. I’d say it’s a safe bet most people have absolutely no idea who he is. Yet despite that, despite not even having an alt mode, he was still able to get a toy! Flame as well. So many enormous dorks have showed up in figure form this year alone, and I hope it’s a trend the current team continues throughout the next ten years, whatever those may look like!

There is no world in which saying that is doing anyone wrong. That would have been the total end of my statement on the matter btw, had gcldfang not decided it was a good idea to send me anons.

So there are two different sentiments at play here. We could say "muns who feel that vallaslin is bad and slave markings are perpetuating racism." and/or we could say "Elves in the game who feel that vallalsin is bad and slave markings are perpetuating racism." both of these statements are kinda problematic but this one is more problematic than the other. It seems like you're saying the latter thing right now, idk whether you would agree with both statements or not, but it seems like right now you're only saying the latter.

But it strikes me as really ironic that you can't see the hypocrisy in saying things like "you can't tell me how to feel about my own culture" and in the same breath saying "your elf cant feel this way about their own culture, or it's racist." there are very clearly at least two canonical perspectives of the Evanuris. One as benevolent creators, and one as tyrannical slavers. It is canon that the Evanuris enslaved people. did some of them willingly serve? Of course. But it's canon, still, that there were slaves, and that perspective is offered by more people than just Solas. It just isn't racist for Elves to feel whatever type of way they feel about learning about that aspect of their culture. It's their culture. You can't tell them how to feel about their own culture.

This has pretty much been my and everyone else's point. Saying "if you think this way, that's racist." is not a good thing to say when it blatantly dismisses both in-game character's valid feeling about their own culture, and other irl cultural perspectives from real people. It's been mentioned by multiple people that facial tattoos have been used for a variety of purposes in other real cultures that were also used to inspire the portrayal of Elves in the game. I'm going to quote someone who sent me a message about this, who has already said it: "no one disagreed that the devs using the vallaslin the way they did was a poor choice. while it's true there have been cultures in history that did use facial tattoos for slaves, it's still an insensitive decision! and NO ONE disagreed with that! but from what I saw, you and roughly 4-5 other indigenous people, as well as several other writers, some white, some white and Otherwise marginalized, and some poc of other sorts were saying: 'hey. we get what you're trying to say here, but saying that your culture's perspective is the only correct/non-racist one is not good and not okay. it silences people of other cultures who see their cultures in these characters. yes the devs were racist and careless but that doesn't mean that erasing the other cultures that contributed is ok, and doesn't mean that you get to tell people of those cultures that their interpretations are inherently Less than yours'. Because that is how that original post read."

What that person pointed out is the "railroading" that i've been talking about. It's one thing to say something like "I and my characters all feel that the evanuris were actually gods and that Vallaslin is a good thing because im upset with the bastardization/villanization of how my culture was used to inspire these things in the elves." and it's a different thing to say "And if you and your characters don't agree with my perspective then you're racist/perpetuating racism, too." because that one cultural perspective isn't the only one that exists. Other cultures have their own perspectives and experiences with facial markings, and those matter, too. And yet even still, we have only ever acknowledged and agreed that the choice for Vallaslin to be used as a symbol for enslavement in the game is racially problematic.

That's not what it means to punch down. Nor did I ever say that they can't or shouldn't protest their mistreatment.

In real life, again, as it's been pointed out, facial tattooing has been used for a variety of different purposes across multiple different cultures. Some were positive, some weren't. I agree that in western society, as a whole, there is stigma against indigenous facial tattooing that is a product of systemic racism and colonialism.

The characters in dragon age exist within the context of the fiction of their world, which has been influenced by a multicultural mix of real world identities. There is no one correct interpretation of their facial tattoos. Neither in the game or irl, because of the fact that multiple cultures were used as inspo for the Elves. You can't insinuate that the perspective of other real world cultures is racist, which is what it seems like you're doing. The world isn't black and white. Indigenous people are not a monolith. People are allowed to be uncomfortable with vallaslin based both on what it represents within in the fictional context of the game and how facial markings have been used within their own real world cultures. Every character in the game, not just Solas, is a vessel for developer bias. That's how bias works, it's inescapable. I've never said that people aren't allowed to dislike him. But it's curious to me how it's only ever Solas who gets hounded for his perspective and not anyone else who is equally as guilty of developer bias or blatant bigotry.

But you just can't tell other people how to feel about it. It really is simply just that.

My first idea is SONGBIRDS! when u are building at a certain high elevation, birds have a chance of spawning and flitting around ur build!! unlike parrots, u cannot tame them. when u kill them they dont drop anything, just xp, just like bats. im thinking they would all be a generic gray or brown, like a mockingbird or starling. they make simple one note chirp sounds once in a while, not enough to get annoying. if u have an untamed cat or ocelelot near them, it will kill them. if u have a tamed cat in the general area they wont spawn/come near the same way creepers run from cats. that way people who dont want birds on their mountain build can keep them away easily ^_^

this one is probably more controversial because TONS of people are scared of mice buttt.... MICE! they should be REALLY cute and super small and should spawn in places with a bunch of chests and in wheat fields!! like bats, they don't do anything, just add a little something to the game. they dont drop anything when killed and dont make any noises. if u have an untamed cat/ocelot/parrot near one, it will kill it, but a tamed cat or parrot will scare them off. that gives people further reason to get a kitty cat for their storage system so a creeper doesnt blow it up! or like, a parrot alarm system, i guess.

FIREFLIES! im so devastated fireflies got scrapped from the game. if mojang was so concerned about them being poisonous to some frogs, they should have just scrapped whole 'frog eating them' thing instead. im not sure if this was something that was gonna be implemented, or i saw it somewhere, or i just made it up but fireflies that can be captured in jars to transport them the same way fish can be captured in buckets!! MAYBE if we are being CRAZY here holding a firefly in a bottle in ur off hand will omit a light source without having to place it. because i know people have been asking for that forever.

for all of the ambient mobs, there would be a cap for how many could spawn in a chunk or general area so they dont become a huge pest!!! im thinking something small like 2-5 but idk whats reasonable because im not a coder!!

most of the mobs we have with real life counterparts are the ones towards the bottom of the food chain. out of 34 mobs that also exist irl, only 2 of them (wolves and polar bears) are apex predators! theres so many awesome animals we are missing out on. i want more neutral mobs instead of passive ones!!!! some animals i would love to see are...

lions! put them in a savanna!! have them drop bones around the same way cats bring you stuff to your bed when you sleep. if you live in a place with lions, they will leave around drops like meat or leather and will kill hostile mobs at night, keeping you safer. BUT! you have to keep a distance!! if you hit one or make eye contact with it like an enderman, it will turn hostile!! have them attack your livestock if its not properly fenced in, as well! if you kill them, they drop mutton or something else sad to discourage you from doing so.

sharks!! we got dolphins!! give us sharks!! they are rare and solitary, but they kill drowned so keeping them around is helpful!!! honestly, i wouldnt mind if these guys were completely passive. i LAUV sharks!! have them spawn in deeper waters than dolphins do or near monuments/shipwrecks like they are 'protecting' it!! maybe they give u a water breathing boost/make ur bubbles go down slower if ur near them.

bears!! we have polar bears and pandas, i want black bears!! let them eat berries from bushes and be silly!!! have them spawn in taigas!!! im just being wild here but MAYBE they can also live in caves near the surface and eat glowberries!!! Also as someone pointed out, Jenna and Brooke are in the left part of this panel, plus Rich in front of the alphabet (and in my mind, Jake partially covered by the speech bubble lol). And as many pointed out, you can see Michael's dialogue in the bottom of this panel too.

4. In PE, the biggest yell in the background is "Get him!" implying they're telling Michael to get Jeremy or vice versa (because of course, everyone else can still see Michael).

(Also: the Michael progression of page 3 is kind of "oh, maybe he's ignoring me because the teacher's teaching?" to "come on dude this isn't funny... but I guess we're opponents and he's trying to score this goal...?" to "okay, everyone's slacking off right now including Jeremy so why isn't he responding, is he dead? Am *I* dead?!"

I imagine the final page is when Jeremy's walking out of school; Michael kind of realizes what's happening and tries to hold Jeremy still so he can't walk away again and so he has to acknowledge him. And throughout, the touches get progressively more personal from a tap on the shoulder, the back, grabbing arms, touching hair, and then a full body hug.)

5. Finally, as a stretch: in the last page, I omitted Jeremy's mouth partly because I couldn't draw a mouth that conveyed this emotion strongly enough (lol), but also as a bit of a reversal of Michael being "muted" by the squip - Jeremy is visually "muted" upon finally being forced to acknowledge him. It's a stretch because Jeremy literally talks in this panel lol (unless he's just thinking, I guess).

So I was looking through my drafts and found this post about Project Skybox and the Interloper ARG from a few months ago. I think I wrote it after Part 9. Part C came out yesterday and some of the stuff I yapped about became slightly relevant/aged... Strangely? I have more thoughts about Part C but I'll save those for later.

I'm going to use Anomidae when referring to the series creator, and Anomi for the in universe character and Project Skybox to collectively refer to Anomi, Lucy, and anyone else involved.

So with any in-progress story with any element of mystery or intrigue, people make every single possible permutation of "X character is actually Y" theories, and I don't buy them. Like I don't think Anomi is actually Eida or whatever. There's mayyybeee one person who's involved with both Anomi and Eida's investigations, and that's JMan from the forum thread (first guy to make a demo, actually). He's also Eida's channel partner/voice actor. The only "evidence" for that is that Eida's crasher video is really crusty on the archive channel, but is a lot clearer in Anomi's video, which could mean Anomi had access to the original recording? It's also kind of weird that the annotated copy of the forum thread on the project skybox site gives JMan and only JMan the role of "Expert". There is also the mysterious JJ in the hidden text in the graffiti with the commands? Idk, I dont think this is anything.

Speaking of generic theories I don't like, I don't think Anomi is hiding information from the audience. At least, not maliciously. I think he's just omitting information that he doesn't think is currently relevant. Anomi and Eida are foils to each other. They're investigating the same thing, but they have very different approaches and theories about what's happening, and they both have their own blindspots which keeps them from seeing the bigger picture. So like, yeah, some of the Tuesday manifest demos are really weird, but Anomi had more pressing things to do, like poking SkyGhost for several months. There is literally a curated playlist on the channel of people dissecting the demos. He knows about the weird stuff in the demos, and he knows that we know he knows that. It's just not important to bring up right now.

Also, I don't think this is a petscop situation where the investigation gets coopted by other people. Lucy and project skybox's introductions seem sudden, but it's always sounded like Anomi's talking to someone off screen or in a discord call or something imo. The FourTwo/title card, Ravencheck/Gris connections, and Olive/🔴Live things are a bit weird, but I think they're just coincidences or dramatic irony. If there is a diagetic reason for them, it's not malicious. Like, what's more likely, Anomi was a member of this small CGI startup in 1991 that evolved into the server hosting/ai developer FSky during the 2000's-2010's, then in 2021 started a YouTube series about the weird things his company did and has been playing dumb this whole time... Or did Anomi pay homage to this weird computer graphics urban legend which he hosts on his site? Like if he's trying to hide this information, Anomidae could have hidden it better.

That all being said... Theres one thing I can't make sense of. Episode 5. The editing is really rough, sometimes Anomi gets cut off mid sentence, and Anomi's notes to cut things out of the video arent removed. The beginning of the video is what really baffles me though. It's the first draft of a video about the flashnuke. At the end of that segment, he lingers on the umbrella man graffiti in ravenholme. The entire first half of the video is Anomi reluctantly moving on from the interloper investigation after portal rtx broke last time.

Except. The dates are really weird. The successful fall test was on July 2nd, and the probe launch on the 10th. The flashnuke first draft was recorded on July 9th. Why would Anomi start a new project and look at the umbrella man graffiti so wistfully the day before the probe launch?

Hi hello so welcome to the post Part C part of this essay. My updated theory about Part 5 and the flashnuke was that the weird editing and tone was all intentional. Anomi did that on purpose, made it seem like he gave up, to make the probe launch even more dramatic. It was weird seeing the Xbox port and the flashnuke actually become relevant in Part C tho.

I feel vindicated that Eida made contact with Anomi, proving that they aren't the same person (probably. Hopefully.). Eida is very insistent Anomi watches his demo, but if Anomi has watched it all the way through, or has done cubemap extraction* on it or anything, he hasn't told us. Meanwhile Eida refuses to give any straight answers. Like what the fuck is a gris.mp4 dude. The two of them are immovable object vs immovable object.

*cubemap extraction is weird. I think part B established you could do cubemap extraction to *any* demo, but non interlope demos have random stuff generated by skyghost? Idk. The whole series follows a pattern of gaining access to one tool, losing access to it, but then finding another angle, another tool. The console commands, the portal rtx void, the probes, the VRAD entity photos, project skybox and the Tuesday manifest, skyghost, then cubemap extraction. Of all of them, cubemap extraction just feels out of place to me. At the very least they proved skyghost was still somehow connected to the fsky servers. Maybe they'll turn out to be like mission critical in the future, idk. But with Part C, Anomi finally entered and explored the source engine void, and project skybox crashed, maybe taking skyghost with it. It feels like we're nearing the end.

Let's talk about the elephant in the room. Spisefourx6. In Part B, random characters in Anomi's explanations are highlighted red, and put together they spell that out. At first I thought it was somehow skyghosts doing, but apparently, other messages starting with "spise" are hidden in parts 9 and A.

I have no idea what to do with those, or how to end this post.

I was so ready to be a hater but I have to say I actually liked Elphie. From Greg defender to Greg hater to Greg defender again I fear.

Sure Maguire chooses the worst opening scenes/chapters ever for some reason. They are not fully unrelated to the story but the vibe is different. It gets good past that part, and it's not a very long book. I can't believe 'influential book reviewers' got ARG copies just to say they could not finish after reading a little of the beginning..?

Some people seemed to hate the writing, but I'm not sure why. It's certainly fanficcy and it makes me wonder if Greg has finally figured out how to use a computer and been reading some (this is not a diss he said so in an interview). The short sentences without verb, the present tense, metaphoring something mundane and/or plot-irrelevant, occasional thesaurusmaxing... It reminds me a bit of certain one-shots where the author wants to make sure you think they're doing something deeper than shipping. I probably do that. I feel self-conscious now lmfao

It's a deeply introspective book... among the flowery, there are multiple quote-worthy pieces of genius. Something else that's fanficcy is the dialog tags are very specific: tells you how the character is feeling or his tone very often. This is different than other authors who simply write the dialogue and lets you imagine / lets it convey how the character is saying it, the emotion. IDK. Sometimes it feels like cheating, because I guess these things should be 'show not tell' but what do I know, I started writing last year and don't have a diploma.

I liked that in this book, we get in Elphie's head. He didn't do that much in W:TLATOTWWOTW (insane abbreviation); this one might be my favorite in the series actually. I think I'm biased because there were a handful of Elphie & Nessa cute moments and I love them. I did not like that he retconned Sheltergod as Shell's birth name, I thought it was more fitting if it was something he made up himself in his sanctimonious era. But he's very fun. He's my fave.

Also I know this is one is a subject of contention so I'm going to post a minor text snippet. Although Gregory omitted (or forgot) Turtle Heart in his OOO family tree, not only the narrative suggests Shell is Frex's only son, but also it is suggested that Nessa even looks Quadling. NESSA MIXED RACE CONFIRMED!

all those times they fantasized about holding hands, kissing each other, holding them close. something that could've been if only one made a move

instead, they wasted all that time scoffing and teasing, jumping to conclusions at all the hints of reciprocation and accidental flirts

or thinking the other was interested in someone else. bringing up other people to get their minds off each other.

and finally, when A is packing their things or something, B watches from a distance, gathering the courage to approach. step by step, and suddenly, they're running (cue the cliche 'stop them at the airport scene')

or it doesn't have to be that dramatic. it could be a slow walk towards a packing A, a longing look, and a responding glance from A, wondering why B looks so down

or it could be at a party to celebrate seeing A off/celebrate the end of a year. and they end up in a room alone together, away from the rest of the noise. or sitting in one's room after the party's over and they've helped to clean up

or walking out together into the night, when thoughts are most intimate

the hype has died down and they're talking about how much time has passed, how things have changed, how they're gonna miss all their friends

and the conversation ends up going into vulnerable territory. they've never seen the other like this before, so exposed and melancholy

how they regret not doing certain things, not meeting certain people. not falling in love (or something like that)

and that catches B's attention.

swallowing, throat bobbing, heart shaking, everything going warm. hands in fists, clenching and unclenching in their pockets, chewing their lip

A notices, glancing up and down innocently. they're also feeling conflicted. surprised by B's genuine look of longing and sadness. moving towards new opportunities, but having to leave something behind.

"I have to tell you something" or even omit that outright and get straight to it.

"I like you." something as simple as that.

A looks up, confused. Defeated chuckling, "Is this a joke?"

the fact that A doesn't take it seriously hurts B. Has B been that horrible?

"No."

A is surprised by the genuine look of sadness on B's face. "For how long?"

"A while." or however long you want.

A smiles and starts to tear up, taking B's hand delicately into theirs. "I feel the same."

elation wells in B's heart before being replaced by that same regret.

in canon grell is a trans woman, yana toboso has said something like "grell is a man with a woman's heart" ages ago and sometimes around 2014/16 had tweeted something about wanting to be more careful with her representation of people like grell in the future, don't quote me on that thought because i only read that tweet once and only remember reading a shitty screenshot of a translation of that interview where she allegedly said that.

i can however show you this:

it's from a bonus chapter (after chapter 108) about the popularity polls (it's a very convoluted non canon chapter) but it's one of the most blatant example of her being trans.

there's also the way she constantly refers to herself as a "young maiden" ect. idk how it goes exactly in the og but in french they translated it so grell always refers to herself with feminine terms while everyone else misgender her including the narrator. she very consistently reaffirm herself as a woman through every single ones of her appearances, like it's a thing she very much does, every single time she's on screen.

i haven't watched the anime in forever (cause it's kind of a disgrace and insult to the manga lol) but if i remember properly (which i mostly likely don't) they did omit/lowkey censor some of grell explicitly going "i wish i had been born a woman/could have been able to carry children" when she first properly introduce herself as a shinigami & the other half of jack the killer. (the anime also really did lean a lot more into the pervert queer caricature whereas in the manga she's given a bit more dignity, especially the further the story goes. though that might be my own impression and maybe it didn't change that much i just love her a whole lot).

also because i have to, please forget the anime (the first two seasons that is) and read the manga first and foremost because oh boy, what a disaster the anime is (nostlagia and atmosphere wise it's entertaining, i really love the op & ed, but it just, i just cant man it doesn't even compare to the manga at all). only watch book of circus -> book of murder -> campania movie -> the new private school arc that's coming soon (idk what they called it) after reading the manga.

Don’t @ me but Queenie turning traitor was bu far the most interesting part of the Crimes of Grindelwald (the only interesting thing, really). There could be such an interesting story between her and Tina if only JKR would let the movies out of her grasp.

Fuck, idk if I have a happiest ending fic, a lot of them tend to not have that much story arc. (A lot of established relationship fluff or smut lmao). I guess if I had to pick one it would probably be How Eddie Learned To Stop Worrying and Embrace The Kitten Life.

Not since that one anti-olicity fic that I wrote while deep in the trenches of Flarrowverse discourse, which I totally deserved :/. I have regrets. Also I should probably orphan/delete that one if I haven’t already. In my defense, high school. I have learned.

Ok. After the end of the Heroes of Olympus Series, but before Trials of Apollo was announced, I tried my own hand at writing the sequel that was clearly coming based on all the loose threads in the final book. It was going to be a Solangelo quest to save the Oracle of Delphi from Python, while Akhys tries to poison Percy to turn him into an evil god(?). Half the details have been lost and I desperately want to remember them, because I haven’t attempted anything nearly as cool or ambitious since then. The first 5 chapters are posted on my ao3 (Will Solace and the Oracle’s Cry) and I still think high school me had the most interesting characterization of Will out of everyone else on the internet at the time. Even if it is still very 2015.

What are your writing strengths?

I think I’m good at getting into the heads of different characters. Understanding their motives and weaknesses.

Editing.

Lmao I have a lot of weaknesses but I definitely struggle the most with trying to look back on or change things I’ve already written, even when it’s necessary.

That’s a minefield I’m not willing to play in. Unless it’s Chinese. Very limited amounts of Chinese. Or like, a pet name or phrase that’s already ubiquitous in fandom so I’m not risking anything.

Percy Jackson!! That Will Solace quest is the first thing I ever wrote! I definitely had a tendency to jump into the deep end with new hobbies lmao. Like my first ever cosplay that took me 3 years to complete.

Favorite fic you've written?

I think my favorite fic is always going to be the one I’m currently working on writing. But I am very proud of the silly little dramatic ironies in In Hindsight, which I wrote entirely over one long lunch the day after 7x04 broke me. Also I have to shoutout Teacher’s Pet, that one ruler spanking fic nobody ever reads because it’s Eddie/Ana lmao. I enjoyed putting in a bunch of tiny incompatibilities between them. So, uh, I guess my favorite thing in my own writing is dramatic irony?

maybe it was something else. he didn't remember. but his heart remembers for him. taking each memory away to tuck away in a little corner till it overfilled, bursting at the seams almost painfully with the only remedy he could find was mustering the nickname for her that became something else, taking on its original definition entirely and beyond ineffably, the only way to profess the bare surface of the affections that almost render him unable to properly breathe.

And since I'm like, not entirely satisfied w her design, I have. Some scraps I made after

I highkey wish I stuck to my main vision, that's been with me since day one. Which is, the layered ribbons. In the main piece, I tried reducing them so you can see more bones and some more Hel-like "armor" underneath (though it's generous to call it that lmfao). It was an impulse decision, and like... idk, you kinda miss the point without it.

Point being, there's like... A Lot, going on here.

> The white dress? Completely imagined. I could have fucking SWORN she was wearing a white dress in the Book 3 key art. But one thing about me is I'm a sucker for the symbolism, behind the white dress. So it's a staple of her design, still. Not to mention, something that was always a strong vision was being able to see through the dress, somewhat (ghostly glowy effect)

> The Biggest Thing though. Again, I regret changing last minute LMFAO. Is that front piece. Like an open wound, as if she was slashed and split down the middle. Messy layered ribbons, in pink and flesh tones, to mimic "guts" (ESP strong in her damaged art, where the ribbons would "spill out"/come undone). The ribbons also are keeping the dress tied together -- as if it were mended. Then, there's the frills! The torn fabric! I'm always iffy about How heavily I want to lean into it, but in the back of my mind. It has a vaguely yonic shape. But Mostly, it's meant to also just look torn open LMFAO (and then decorated 🥰)

Everything else is just vague and experimental. Like nods to a variety of chara's designs (the shorts/thigh highs lifted from her base art, the shape of her dress/the tattered ends lifted from Lif, the sleeves kinda lifted from Henriette, and also the hairstyle VERY much lifted from Henriette -- with just the tiiiiiniest hint of Alfonse in there, with a long strand of bangs to the side, opposite of his). Also experimenting with sharp teeth like accents on her outfit... (hard to notice here, but. Thinking about it)

Another sketch I did afterward, again. Just. Fucking around/finding out. Though I do like the shapes here, more.... and it does have a closer resemblance to Henriette, actually (in dress shape). Not sure where that collar connects to, though LMFAO

In the final piece you don't even see much of the armor I designed anyway... some parts I just ended up omitting regardless, due to the complexity/business. There was a concept for it to be like. Winding around her body. But like. Her design is already so complicated. It really wasn't worth it to fuck it up more 😔💔 (and yet......... that's what I did................. I should have just stuck to my guns.............)
